Here I am in Singapore! As soon as I arrived last Friday I was brought to the school where I met with a lot of the wonderful teachers at the International Community School. Since then, I have been getting to know my way around, trying to unpack, shopping for things I will need, eating fantastic food, getting to know the teachers, etc. On Sunday I got together with some family friends that I had not seen since I left Japan twelve years ago. It was fun to reconnect with them. The church I went to with them was a really nice church full of very friendly people. I would not be surprised if I end up going there regularly, but would like to try a couple other churches out first.
My position here at the moment is the Academic Counselor and 6th and 8th grade PE teacher. I really have no experience in either of these fields, which is nerve-wracking and exciting at the same time. I love the challenge of learning new roles, but learning multiple roles at once is often overwhelming. Yesterday I went through boxes of college information and still have more to go through. Then, I need to organize all the information somehow. I keep getting e-mails from people asking questions and I really have no idea what I'm doing... I'm not a manager like my sister is, but we'll figure things out. Today, I taught 3 of my 4 PE classes. I really just went through the syllabus and then played some games. It was fun to start getting to know the students. My first class wasn't very responsive, but I'm sure they'll warm up as soon as the year gets rolling. The second class was quite energetic and fun. My 6th grade class was fantastic. They are kind of shy and quiet, but super cute and just a wonderful class.
All in all, I'm having a fantastic start to the school year. I'm really excited about what I'm doing, but could use a lot of prayer as it is often overwhelming as well.
We are glad that you are enjoying your time in Singapore. May you let the Lord
